Dare Arts is bringing the Outer Banks Film Society back this fall for its third season to screen independent films, movie classics, documentaries, shorts and world cinema.
Films will be screened on select Tuesdays at Dare Arts in Manteo, unless otherwise specified. Doors will open at 6:00pm and films will start at 6:15pm, which is a little bit earlier than last year.
Outer Banks Film Society curator Gaye Morris has spent the last few months coordinating a fresh slate of films for the 25/26 season.
“In honor of Dare Arts celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025, we’ll be screening a classic film from 1975, Dog Day Afternoon, as well as several unmissable films from the past 50 years,” said Gaye Morris. “And as always, we have the best in world cinema and documentary film. It’s going to be a great year to be a member of the Outer Banks Film Society!”
The schedule below has been carefully curated for the Outer Banks Film Society:
· Sept. 9: Dog Day Afternoon
· Sept. 23: Being There
· Sept. 30: MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival
· Oct. 14: The Seed of the Sacred Fig (Iran)
· Oct. 28: Triplets of Belleville (France)
· Nov. 4: Fanny – the Other Mendelssohn (UK)
· Nov. 18: I’m Still Here (Brazil)
· Jan 20: Lone Star
· Feb. 3: Nickel Boys
· Feb. 17: The Wedding Banquet (US/Korea)
· Mar. 3: Oscar Nominated Short Films (+2nd screening TBD)
· Mar. 17: Between the Temples
· Mar. 31: Member’s Selection
New for the 25/26 season, the film society has purchased padded folding chairs to make screenings more comfortable for members, and they are closing out the year with a new feature, the Member’s Selection, a film nominated and voted on by members.
“In addition to screening the crowd favorite, the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival, and the Academy Awards-nominated short films, vying for the 2026 Oscar prize, this year we will be asking members to suggest a film they’d like to see us show,” said Dare Arts Executive Director Jessica Sands. “Every year we add new and exciting ideas to enrich the experience overall, and we can’t wait to see which films our members nominate for our final screening of the year. Dare Arts has become the place to be on Tuesday evenings in the off-season.”
Unlike purchasing a ticket to go see a movie at the local theater, you join the Outer Banks Film Society through an annual or seasonal membership. An annual membership is $140 and includes 14 films, plus member-only discounts for other local film related events, including the Surfalorus Film Festival in September and the Environmental Film Festival in November. Seasonal (fall or winter) memberships include seven films per season.
Film society memberships can be purchased online at DareArts.org/filmsociety, over the phone by calling Dare Arts, and in-person at the Dare Arts Gallery in Manteo.
The Outer Banks Film Society will also offer enriched film programming that includes film-related speakers, special events, and filmmaker discussions.
