Outer Banks Film Society’s Fourth Season To Begin September 15

Created to foster a community that appreciates the art of film, the Outer Banks Film Society’s fourth season will begin in September with a full slate of independent films, movie classics, documentaries, shorts, and world cinema.

Films will be screened on select Tuesdays at Dare Arts in Manteo, unless otherwise specified. Doors will open at 6:00pm and films will start at 6:15pm. 

Outer Banks Film Society curator Gaye Morris has spent the last few months coordinating a unique variety of films for the 26/27 season. 

“It's exciting to me that we are entering the fourth year of the Outer Banks Film Society,” said Rev. Dr. Gaye Morris. “Our members are not film experts or critics - they are ordinary folks who like to see films that are unique and provocative works of art. Our screenings include introductions that give context and pique interest, and our members enjoy discussions after the film that bring out great comments and food for thought. From September through March, come see the best in world cinema, documentary, classic and independent films right here on the Outer Banks.”

• Oct. 13: It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley

• Oct. 27: Nightbitch

• Nov. 10: Falling Down

• Dec. 1: City of Lost Children (France)

• Jan. 19: I Love Boosters

• Feb. 2: Aquarela

• Feb. 16: Monsoon Wedding (India)

• Mar. 2: Oscar© Nominated Short Films (+Additional screenings TBD)

• Mar. 16: Triangle of Sadness

With an average of 65 active members for the last three consecutive years, the Outer Banks Film Society offers enriched film programming that includes film-related speakers, special events, and filmmaker discussions. 

Dare Arts will host a Film Society Mix & Mingle at Sea Level Coffee & Kitchen in Nags Head on Tuesday, August 25 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. This event is free and open to the public, and is a great opportunity to learn about the Film Society, preview the upcoming season, and connect with fellow cinephiles. Cocktails, mocktails, and other libations will be available to purchase from Sea Level, and Dare Arts will provide light snacks. 

Unlike purchasing a ticket to go see a movie at the local theater, you join the Outer Banks Film Society through an annual or seasonal membership. Film society memberships can be purchased online at DareArts.org/filmsociety, over the phone by calling Dare Arts, and in-person at the Dare Arts Gallery in Manteo.
