The power of Art

Giving Everyone The Opportunity To Create

What Is The Power Of Art?

Made possible by grants from the Outer Banks Community Foundation and Outer Banks Health, the Power of Art’s objective is to serve special groups in need or with limited access to arts programming and education.

Through our Power of Art program, we advocate for many underserved communities including older adults, those with dementia/cognitive decline, adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities, those affected by cancer, and families in grief support.

Dare Arts works to provide these populations with enriching art experiences and opportunities to connect with each other and their community.

Power of Art classes promote participants’ social interaction, creative self-expression, and critical thinking skills while combating ageism and isolation, all leading to well-being and other positive mental health outcomes.

The program was designed to utilize the fundamental power of art to create new outlets for the participants’ memories, dreams and aspirations.

Artists interested in leading a Power of Art class or being part of the program are encouraged to fill out the Artist Interest Form on the button below or call (252) 473-5558.

Power of Art Initiatives

Dare Arts has partnered with local organizations to help meet the identified needs within the community.

Groups who have participated in the Power of Art program are Monarch Beach Club, Outer Banks Health, Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition, and Gentle Experts Memorycare (GEM) Adult Day Services, the SNAP group, and Outer Banks Hotline.

We partner with the Monarch Beach Club to provide art instruction and activities to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Through a partnership with Outer Banks Health, a project called Expressions of Hope & Healing is a part of Dare Arts’ Power of Art program. The Expressions project brings free art workshops and artistic resources to community members who have been affected by cancer.
