David Roberts Exhibit

Visions On Reclaimed Wood

In August our Vault Gallery will feature original paintings by David Roberts on reclaimed wood.

David's paintings represent special moments and places that have made meaningful impacts on his life. He strives to show the beauty in simple details that spark a deep feeling or emotion. Perspective, distance, shadows, and color, all play vital roles in his paintings, which are inspired by lighthouses, beaches, wetlands, barns, and old houses.

A background in woodworking instilled a love for creating new and restoring old pieces in David. This connection has shown him that even as things change, these structures maintain their unique place in the world as art.

"It brings me great joy to show the world through my eyes in all my paintings and drawings." - David Roberts

Exhibition Dates + Artist Bio

Visions On Reclaimed Wood will be on display in the Vault Gallery August 7-29, 2026. There will be an opening reception on Friday, August 7 from 6pm to 8pm, where visitors can meet David and view his work. The opening reception is during downtown Manteo's First Friday festivities and is free and open to the public.

David Roberts, a native of Norwalk, Connecticut, was raised on Long Island Sound. He started showing interest in art at the age of 5, drawing his first portrait of a man detailed in a pinstripe vest and pants, a pocket watch and chain, and a handlebar mustache. Throughout high school, his love of art grew stronger as he began to enter many art shows. Although his teacher suggested he attend the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York for commercial art because of his talents, he chose a different direction, much to his teacher's dismay. He attended the University of Connecticut and earned a degree in Education. After many years of teaching, the call to create original artwork persisted, eventually leading him to become a carpenter. He found his way toward creative expression through custom woodworking and building homes. Now retired, David has, at long last, picked up his brushes and resumed the artistic journey he began so many years ago.
