Dare County Arts Council Now Accepting New World Festival Of The Arts Applications

Dare County Arts Council announces a Call For Entry for the 39th Annual New World Festival of the Arts, which will return to the Manteo waterfront August 12-13, 2020.

Artists from all over the East Coast will travel to the Outer Banks to showcase their fine art, including ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, photography, wood design, leather works, basketry, painting and printmaking at the free, outdoor festival.

2019 New World Festival of the Arts Best In Show award recipient Kristen Dahms’ mixed media piece titled “Voyage Home” was selected to promote this year’s festival.

“Voyage Home was inspired by the beauty of the ocean and the magic of the moon,” said artist Kristen Dahms of Hampton, Virginia. “New World Festival of the Arts takes place in a beautiful waterfront area with art of many different styles and variety.”

Artists wishing to participate in the 39th Annual New World Festival of the Arts can find the application online here. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Dare County Arts Council will notify artists of the jury’s decisions by Friday, May 1, and a full list of participating artists will be available after Monday, June 1.

Multidisciplinary artist and East Carolina University School of Art & Design graduate Travis Fowler will judge this year’s show.

“I am honored to have been considered and chosen to judge an event of this scale,” said artist Travis Fowler. “I am really looking forward to seeing the array of work and meeting the artists and makers that the 39th Annual New World Festival of the Arts will bring to Manteo.”

An artist reception will take place at Dare County Arts Council on Wednesday, August 12 from 5pm-7pm. Midway through the reception, the award winners will be announced and prizes will be distributed. The reception is free and open to the public, and is a great place to mingle with the exhibiting artists.

New World Festival of the Arts has been a Manteo tradition for decades, providing awareness of current trends in the visual arts. The festival was started by Manteo business owner Edward Greene, and is sponsored by the Town of Manteo.

This project was supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
