On behalf of the citizens of Dare County, we would like to thank each of you for your service. Thank you for the sacrifices you made and continue to make to protect our freedom. We honor your courage, not only this Veterans Day, but every day. Your devotion to our nation is steadfast just as your determination to protect and to serve. Below you will find a list of events, activities and discounts taking place throughout the Outer Banks the first part of November. We hope you and your family members will join us at one of the wonderful concerts, workshops, and ceremonies taking place in Dare County this Veterans Week. Please note that some events and activities require pre-registration. We Salute You!
Friday, November 1
Manteo First Friday Concert
Join us for a First Friday Concert in downtown Manteo on November 1 from 6:00pm-8:00pm featuring The Wilder Brothers. The concert will take place at Dare County Arts Council, located at 300 Queen Elizabeth Ave, Manteo. The concert is free, family-friendly, and open to the public.

Candle Lighting Ceremony to Honor Veterans
Join GEM for a Candle Lighting Ceremony on November 3 from 4pm-5pm in honor of our Veterans. The ceremony will take place at Saint Andrews By the Sea Episcopal Church located at 4212 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head. The GEM Center is a community-based nonprofit organization that offers adult day services. It supports adults with memory loss and physical and mental disabilities such as Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Thursday, November 7
Veterans Week Concert featuring Keith Anderson and Ray Scott
Two of country music's best storytellers, Keith Anderson and Ray Scott, are traveling to the Outer Banks to perform at the Outer Banks Veterans Concert on Thursday, November 7 at Secret Island Tavern in Kill Devil Hills. Doors open at 7:00pm and music starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for veterans, active-duty military and their family members. Tickets can be purchased online here, Dare County Arts Council in Manteo and Secret Island Tavern in Kill Devil Hills. Proceeds fund Dare County Arts Council’s Veteran programs.

Morgan Family Dentistry Veteran Special
Morgan Family Dentistry will be offering free filings and tooth extractions for Veterans on November 8. Dr. David Morgan, Dr. Frank Bald and Dr. Pat Morgan are offering this clinic to show appreciation for those who have served. Island Holiday Craft Show
FREE ADMISSION! This show offers a large variety of beautiful handmade crafts and a very special perk too! Open 10AM – 5PM each day.
We will be offering a special ‘Veteran’s Table’ raffle with the proceeds benefiting our local Outer Banks V.F.W. Post 10950 Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of Billy Brown, Vietnam Veteran. Raffle tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20 and…ONE winner takes ALL! A variety of unique handmade/painted items that celebrate our veterans will be awarded to one winner of thesingle draw at the end of the 2-day show @ 5PM Saturday, Nov. 9th!

Free Oil Changes
Meineke Car Care Center is offering free oil changes for Veterans on Saturday, November 9 from 7:30-3pm. Meineke is located at 1800 S. Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills and open 7:30am-3:00pm. Please bring a military I.D.
2019 Veterans Writing Workshop
This is a free, two-day workshop for Veterans, active-duty military and their families. Beginner and experienced writers are invited to participate in the workshop, which will be held at the ECU Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese, NC. This year’s workshop will focus on poetry and be led by Veterans Ron Capps and Colin Halloran. The workshop includes complimentary breakfast and lunch. TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon & Southern Fried Half Marathon/Southern Six
The TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon & Southern Fried Half Marathon/Southern 6 is a full weekend of events in the Outer Banks. Veterans receive a free entry into the Southern Six Category of the Outer Banks Marathon. This includes the last six miles of the marathon which kicks off at 8:45am at the Outlets located in Nags Head. Register by emailing and please bring proof of Veteran status at packet pick up. Join Broker/Realtor Al Friedman on November 11 from 9:30am11:30am for a Veterans Buyer and Seller Real Estate Workshop to learn more about buying and/or selling your home with your VA benefits. Jolly Roger Restaurant is offering two great specials for Veterans. Join them on Veterans Day, Monday November 11, for a complimentary dinner entrée up to $18.99 to thank you for your service. Please bring a military I.D. Jolly Roger Restaurant also offers free breakfast to Veterans on the first Tuesday of every month. Jolly Roger Restaurant is located at 1836 N. Virginia Dare Trail, Kill Devil Hills.

Free Admission to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island
Enjoy free admission for all Veterans, active-duty military and their spouses and dependents to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island on Veterans Day, November 11. The aquarium is located at 374 Airport Road, Manteo and is open daily from 9am-5pm.

The Veterans Day Ceremony in Southern Shores will take place Monday, November 11 at 11:00am at the Flagpole Pavilion at the Southern Shores Town Hall.
Veterans Day Ceremony- Kill Devil Hills
The Veterans Day Ceremony in Kill Devil Hills will tae place Monday, November 11 at 12:30pm. The ceremony will take place at the Veterans Memorial on Veterans Drive, Kill Devil Hills.
Veterans Day Ceremony- Pirate’s Cove
The Veterans Day Ceremony at Pirate’s Cove will take place Monday, November 11 at 9:00am. The ceremony will take pace at the flagpole located at the entrance to Pirates Cove.
Veterans Day Ceremony- Downtown Manteo
The Veterans Day Ceremony in Downtown Manteo will take place Monday, November 11 at 9:00am at the Dare County Veterans Memorial, 300 Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Manteo.
Veterans Day Ceremony- Nags Head
The Veterans Day Ceremony in Nags Head will take place Monday, November 11 at 11:00am at the Town Hall located at 5401 S. Croatan Highway, Nags Head.

COA Honors Glenn Eure
"A Work of Art, a Labor of Love: COA Honors Glenn Eure" will premiere on Thursday, November 14, at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, N.C. The video -- narrated primarily by Glenn's wife, Pat -- explores the decade-long journey that the artist, an Army major, took in the creation of 15 hand-carved, half-to-three-quarters-life-size Stations of the Cross that now adorn Holy Redeemer by the Sea Church. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with introductory remarks at 5:30 p.m. and the video's premiere from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to view the Stations in the nave of the Church from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m.

Veterans Appreciation Luncheon at the Dare County Center
The Veterans Appreciation Luncheon will take place at the Dare County Center on November 15 at 12:00pm. All Dare County Veterans are invited to attend the luncheon being hosted by The Dare County Center, Monarch Beach Club and American Legion Post 26. RSVP for the luncheon by calling 252-475-9270.
Ace Hardware Discount Ace Hardware provides a 10% discount to Veterans, active-duty military and reserves every day! Make sure to check them out for any of your hardware needs. Ace Hardware has numerous locations throughout the Outer Banks. Please bring a valid military ID.

The Dare County Board of Commissioners created the Veterans Advisory Council in respectful recognition of the service and sacrifice of all Dare County Veterans. DCVAC’s signature program is the Dare County Veterans I.D. Card. If you are interested in receiving a Veterans I.D. Card, you will need your DD214 form showing an honorable discharge and a driver’s license with a Dare County address. Many local businesses support our Veterans and want to say ‘thank you’ for all you have done to protect and serve our nation and the I.D. Card enables you to receive discounts off goods and services at many local business locations. If you would like further information about how to obtain your I.D.
