Tamra Harrison Kirschnick Exhibit
Perfectly Imperfect
From December to January, our Vault Gallery will feature ocean paintings and shell portraits by Tamra Harrison Kirschnick.
This exhibition was inspired by the ocean, shore, storms, wind, birds, and shells. In her work, Tamra studies the details of shells thrown on the shore revealing lovely planes and geographic shapes. Tamra gravitates toward the broken remnants with the unexpected holes and sharp edges and builds in the color with many layers of oil paint. The use of complementary colors increases boldness and intensity of the palette, and the exaggerated scale of the imagery creates an ambiguity of what is real. The juxtaposing of dimensional shells and shore remnants with a flat color plane pushes the object out of its expected environment. It is this process that reveals unexpected shore paintings.

Although she graduated college with a degree in marketing, she extended her studies a fifth year to achieve a concentration in art. Upon graduation, she began a career as a graphic designer. After the birth of her first child, the graphic design was put aside. It was in 2010 that she joyfully began to paint full-time.
