Jackie & Paul Tury Exhibit
Yours Mine Ours
In April our Vault Gallery will feature collaborative works in paint and paper by Jackie and Paul Tury.
Each work of art is a shared effort combining their respective mediums of paint and handmade paper in new and unique ways. The result is an explosion of color and creativity displayed in a surprising array of artwork.
This is the first time the husband and wife artists have worked together to create a collaborative body of work in their 33 years of marriage.
"This endeavor was exciting, new, challenging, stressful and ultimately rewarding. The process was like learning a new language. It involved negotiation, communication, compromise, commitment, trust, trial and error—much like marriage itself. It required taking what is Yours and Mine and making it Ours. We hope you like the results." - The Turys

Jackie Tury is a full-time artist living in Kitty Hawk. She is endlessly amazed and inspired by the natural beauty of the Outer Banks and is grateful to live in a place that speaks to her soul. Jackie uses an intuitive painting process to create vibrant paintings that range from expressive seascapes, to colorful abstracts and florals. Rather than painting from reference or working towards a predetermined outcome, she paints from the inside out. Jackie focuses more on the process—the colors, energy and emotion of the piece, working layer by layer with intuition as her guide.
Paul Tury is a hand papermaker and artist living and working in Kitty Hawk. He has a BFA in painting and printmaking from James Madison University and is an award-winning graphic designer and illustrator. He is currently the creative director for a national non-profit. His artistic passion is making handmade paper in his home studio from commercially available and natural sources. These papers are made out of cotton, abaca, hemp, recycled paper, recycled clothing and natural items found around him such as flowers, seaweed, herbs and other plants. He frequently dyes the paper pulp in a variety of bright colors which complement and contrast with the natural colors of his raw materials creating a wide spectrum of colors, shades and textures.
