Artrageous Kids Art Festival Will Bring Magic To Dowdy Park

Presented by PNC Bank

Families are invited to enjoy free, interactive visual and performing arts at the 33rd Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival presented by PNC Bank, which will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sat., May 7, at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.

The Mosaic Steel Orchestra from Hampton, Va will headline Artrageous, with dynamic steelpan entertainment to be performed by a diverse group of children and adults. Also performing are Donna Roark’s Shadow Players with Drama Mama and Atlantic Dance, as well as students from Ascension Music Academy, the Mustang Outreach Program and Leslie Erickson’s music school.

“This year’s stage lineup for Artrageous is really special,” said Ruth Wyand, a local musician and music teacher. “We will have dance performances, theater, and a wide range of live music by kids and adults. Visitors won’t want to miss seeing the Mosaic Steel Orchestra’s performance at 12:45 p.m.”

Magician The Impossible Chris will be a roving performer at Artrageous, a nod to the event’s 2022 theme, The Magic of Art.

Artrageous will feature free art stations where children can participate in the magical process of creating, including making magic wands, building sensory crafts, designing stained glass suncatchers, planting their own succulents and experimenting with culinary art.

“We are so excited to be a part of the 2022 Artrageous Kids Art Festival,” said chef Virginia Miller, owner of Modern Coastal Cookery. “We will be teaching the kids fun knife skills, entry level baking techniques and the art of food styling.”

Local artisans will be selling their handmade work at Artrageous, including at the Young Artist Village, which provides a venue for students to sell jewelry, paintings, fiber art and more.

Fork ‘et Me Not, Island Snowball and Blurred Lines Bakery will be selling snacks and sweet treats onsite all day.

Additional parking for Artrageous will be available at Nags Head Elementary School and the Bonnett Street Public Beach Access.

Presented by PNC Bank, the Artrageous Kids Art Festival is Dare County’s longest-running kids art program. The Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund awards one scholarship to a senior at each high school in Dare County every year.
