Dare County Arts Council Connects Outer Banks Cancer Community To The Arts

Dare County Arts Council has been awarded a Community Benefit Grant from the Outer Banks Hospital for a new project called Expressions of Hope & Healing. The program provides free art workshops and artistic resources to community members who have been affected by cancer.

Creative director Fay Davis Edwards and program coordinator Susan Lawrence are working together to invite those who have been touched by cancer in any capacity (cancer patients, their family members/friends, caretakers, cancer survivors and our local oncology healthcare professionals) to share their journey and experiences through the arts.

“We are aware that you might be undergoing treatment and are available to facilitate anything you may need to participate in this program,” said Lawrence, herself a cancer survivor. “Our goal is to remove obstacles that may prevent you from creating art. We are happy to help coordinate transportation, schedule a private lesson, and/or deliver art supplies to your home so you can create at your own pace.”
