Dare County Arts Council Announces Live Entertainment For 30th Artrageous

Multicultural performing artists will take the stage at Dare County Arts Council’s 30th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival on Saturday, May 11 from 10am-3pm at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.

Presented by PNC Bank, the entertainment will celebrate this year’s Artrageous theme, A Big, Bright, Beautiful World, which promotes art, diversity and culture in our community and around the world.

There will be live music by Latin band Arguenderos Musical, student bands from the Mustang Outreach Program, as well as progressive reggae band One Culture.

"We are honored to be included in the Artrageous Kids Art Festival,” said One Culture’s lead guitarist, vocalist and producer Kurt Jansohn. “Children need a positive influence in this day in age. What’s better than positive unifying reggae music and the opportunity to freely create art! It’s festivals like this one that make creating art worthwhile. Unity of the community through music and art!"

The free, family friendly event will also feature a special appearance by an African dance duo with live drummers and performances by Atlantic Dance and Outer Banks Centre For Dance.

Stamping metal pendants, making stained glass sun catchers, forging mini swords and painting cedar shakes are some of the many free, high-quality art activities that kids can participate in at Artrageous.

“I was at the very first Artrageous and the event just keeps getting better and better,” said Dare County Arts Council’s President Ex-Officio Ginny Flowers. “Artrageous is many kids’ introduction to art and first chance at making whatever their imagination can come up with. Every year I look forward to creating art with the children. I will be assisting Jack and Marcia Horst at the stained glass station again this year. I can’t wait to celebrate 30 years of this wonderful Outer Banks tradition!”

The day will be complimented by over 15 local artisans selling and showcasing their creative goods.

Fork’et Me Not and Outer Banks Brewing Station’s food trucks will be at Artrageous selling delicious lunch items. OBX Frozen Yogurt and Island Snowball will be at the event selling their sweet treats.

Families planning to attend Artrageous are encouraged to walk, carpool and ride their bikes. Parking will be available at Nags Head Elementary School and at the Bonnett Street beach access. Handicap parking will be available at Dowdy Park.

Volunteers interested in being part of Artrageous can sign up online here or by emailing kidsartobx@gmail.com.

PNC Bank is the presenting sponsor of Artrageous, which is co-hosted by Dare County Arts Council and the Town of Nags Head. Artrageous is also sponsored by the North Carolina Arts Council, The Don and Catharine Bryan Cultural Series, TowneBank Insurance, Super Wings, Surf Pediatrics, Outer Banks Woman’s Club, and Joe Lamb Jr. & Associates.

Proceeds from Artrageous benefit Dare County Arts Council’s cultural arts programming and the Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund, which awards one scholarship to a senior at each Dare County High School.

This project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
