Dare County Arts Council Announces Entertainment for 29th Annual Artrageous

Presented by PNC Bank

Dancers, a choir, and multiples bands will take the stage at the 29th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival on Saturday, May 12 at Dowdy Park in Nags Head.

From 10am to 3pm, Artrageous guests will enjoy entertainment by the Nags Head Elementary School choir, Static Attitude, student bands from the Mustang Outreach Program, Atlantic Dance, reggae band Sensi Trails with guest Holden McOwen, and Washington, DC based high-energy pop rock band Sub-Radio.

“We’re thrilled to be coming down south to Nags Head for Artrageous,” said Sub-Radio’s guitarist Matt Prodanovich. “Playing music with each other for so long has made our shows total parties, so folks can expect a lot of dancing.”

Before Sub-Radio takes the stage, Dare County Arts Council Executive Director Chris Sawin will announce the 2018 Artrageous Youth Scholarship recipients. The Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund awards one scholarship to a senior at each Dare County High School every year.

The free, family friendly event will also feature an acoustic art walk of local musicians playing music in the park and numerous high-quality kids art activities.

“Building dream catchers, stamping copper pendants, designing cards, fusing stained glass sun catchers, making alcohol ink tiles, and creating bookmarks are just a few of the awesome art stations children will get to experience at this year’s Artrageous,” said Dare County Arts Council Board Member and Artrageous Event Chair Jessica Sands. “This year’s theme is Find Your Gift, so the art stations will teach children about giving back to the community and give them a place to create free handmade gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Teacher’s Appreciation Month. Kids can even take their items to the gift wrapping station!”

The day will be complimented with 20 local artists selling their creative goods, including photography, jewelry, prints, skincare products, and more. Local restaurants will also be at Artrageous selling lunch items and sweet treats.

Families planning to attend Artrageous are encouraged to walk, carpool and ride their bikes. Parking is available at Nags Head Elementary and at the Bonnett Street beach access. Handicap parking will be available at Dowdy Park.
