Rock The Cape Festival Returns To Hatteras Island In June

Dare County Arts Council will host the fifth annual Rock The Cape Festival June 17-24 on Hatteras Island.

This year Rock The Cape will expand into a weeklong celebration of the creative community of Hatteras Island with family-friendly activities including live music, an art show, and a self-guided gallery tour.

“We’re excited for another year of celebrating the amazing artists and galleries here on Hatteras,” said Dare County Arts Council’s Rock The Cape Event Chair and Spinfinite Designs Owner/Artist Randi Machovec. “Rock The Cape is a fantastic and fun opportunity for folks to meet and support some of the island’s talent, and a great way for local businesses and artisans to come together to celebrate our creative community.”

The festival will kick off with the Hatteras Island Gallery Tour, which will be held June 17-24 from Rodanthe to Hatteras Village, and will feature the island’s galleries doing demonstrations, trunk shows, tours, and more.

Hatteras Island galleries interested in being a part of DCAC’s new Gallery Map or interested in receiving the Gallery Map can contact Dare County Art Council’s Executive Director Chris Sawin at dareartsinfo@gmail.com.

On Thursday, June 22 over 35 artists will come together for the Rock The Cape Art Show at Hatteras Realty in Avon from 10am-6pm. Admission to the Rock The Cape Art Show is free and visitors will be able to enjoy plenty of entertainment while checking out local arts and crafts.

Artists interested in participating in the art show can find the application here.

“The Avon Art Show has teamed up with Rock The Cape this year to create an all day celebration of the arts,” said Hatteras Island based photographer Peter Lewando. “You will find an outdoor event with some of the Outer Banks’ most well known artists selling their creations, live art demonstrations, healing arts, and local food vendors. Top this off with local musicians playing at the art show throughout the day and a concert at Koru’s Beach Klub in the evening- this is a celebration of the arts that you do not want to miss.”

Immediately following the Rock The Cape Art Show, Koru Village’s oceanfront Beach Klub in Avon will open its doors at 6pm for the fifth annual Rock The Cape concert featuring Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band Rumours.

Hatteras Island artists, galleries, businesses and civic organizations wishing to participate in the festival or become a sponsor are invited to contact Dare County Arts Council via email at dareartsinfo@gmail.com.
