Women Warriors: Past, Present, Future Exhibit Features Portraits of Thirty-Six Outer Banks Women

Dare County Arts Council announces a special art exhibit created by fine art portrait photographer Anne Snape Parsons featuring thirty-six Outer Banks women. The exhibit, Women Warriors: Past, Present, Future, celebrates historic women, community leaders, and aspiring young people.

In conjunction with Women's History Month, which commemorates and encourages the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in history, Women Warriors: Past, Present, Future will be on display from March 5th through March 27th.

“The genesis for this project was when I discovered many young women had never heard of St. Hildegard von Bingen, Amelia Earhart, Marie Curie, and other incredible women who made an indelible mark on history,” said photographer Anne Snape Parsons. “Upon completion of the images, I thought of all the women who serve our community, who demonstrate exemplary qualities, and who overcome challenges and adversity every day. They are the exemplars for the young women warriors who show potential in leadership and resilience in defending others. Thus, Women Warriors: Past, Present, Future became my pandemic project.”

The exhibit showcases images of 36 women: 12 of whom represent remarkable women who made history, 12 Outer Banks women who are already making a difference, and 12 young women who show the potential to become ambassadors for important work in the community.

Because photographs are the universal language of our era, they inform, educate, and stimulate audiences when they are presented in visual form. Anne Parsons is an artist who ‘chases the light’ and creates beautiful images with a timeless feel. This is an exhibition you do not want to miss.

This project was supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. www.NCArts.org.
