Photography 102: Composition and Creativity
Time & Location
About The Event
Are you disappointed in your photographs? Then, this class is for you. Through lecture, demonstration, and on-location photography this class, taught by award-winning photographer, Shirley Whitenack, will give you the knowledge to make a photograph, not just take a photograph.
This class will emphasize components of composition, the psychology of color, point of focus, exploiting depth of field (blurred, soft background vs detailed, sharp background), importance of foreground, midground, and background as well as using fill flash. Shirley will give a quick overview of basic camera functions; however, participants should have a comfortable working knowledge of their cameras.
Friday, April 23: Classroom, 1:00pm – 4:00pm; Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, 4:00-5:00pm
Saturday, April 24: Photo shoot at the beach, 8:00am-10:00am; classroom until 3:00pm
Class wrap-up includes image review/critique, analyzing histograms, organizing/archiving images, a list of photo resources, and follow-up questions. Each participant will receive photography handouts to keep for future reference.
Expect to leave this class with the confidence to take control of your camera and create more dynamic photographs.
