Featuring films from all over the globe, Surfalorus has become an end-of-summer staple on the Outer Banks, bringing in filmmakers from far and wide to screen their movies among the local community and for the visiting surfers attending the Eastern Surfing Association’s Surf Championships.
Offering movies from far-flung locales such as Hawaii, El Salvador, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK, France and Mexico, the party will kick off with a screening of AMBIVALENT, the latest flick from Outer Banks legend, Brett Barley. His deep dive into the inner workings of trying to be a professional surfer in today’s culture sheds light on societal issues..."
The other feature films include “Shaping the Future,” an ode to California shaper Lance Collins and his prominent fingerprint left on the aesthetic of surfing in the ‘80s, and “Some Like It Classic,” a nod to the old school longboard film featuring dreamy locales and stylish surfing, all shot in knockout 16mm color film. There will also be two blocks of short films that vary in theme and location.
The festival offers live music, Q&A sessions with attending filmmakers, an evening of tasty shellfish with farmers representing the North Carolina Oyster Trail and an opportunity for like-minded surf folk to enjoy a communal experience that dates back to the 1960s when surf culture was in it’s infancy.
Come share the stoke with the Surfalorus ohana as we gather at Jennette’s Pier for the party of the summer!
