In March, our Vault Gallery will feature color pencil drawings and graphite studies of unique objects by Kitty Hawk artist Mark Russell.
The month-long exhibition will highlight Mark's over realistic illustrations of what he finds as rare and curious artifacts.
Drawing in his own stylistic vision, Mark puts his artistic passion to paper with an illustration style that visually draws the viewer in for a better look. His style heralds not just a mastery of pencil rendering, but what he picks to draw are so interesting to investigate up close.

Artifacts will be on display in the Vault Gallery March 3 through April 1, 2023.
There will be an opening reception on Friday, March 3 from 6pm to 8pm where visitors can meet Mark and view his work. The reception is free and open to all.
Born in 1970 to very creative and artist parents, Mark was drawing and coloring incessantly up until high school. He was honored through a selection process to earn a spot in the Virginia Governors Magnet School for the Arts, immersed in fine art courses taught at Old Dominion University. Soon after, he put his path in fine art on hold to pursue a career in graphic design.
In 1992 Mark relocated to the Outer Banks and began creating illustrative resort products. He enjoyed the challenge and creating work to build up the Outer Banks' reputation for the most sought after beach souvenirs. After 30 years, millions of printed t-shirts decorated with his artwork, and over a hundred thousand hours digitally painting designs for some of the Outer Banks' most famous establishments, Mark started working with graphite pencils, prismacolors and charcoal in 2022.
