Are there way too many buttons on your digital camera? Are you stuck in auto mode? Get out of auto and learn how to take control of your images. This class, taught by award-winning photographer, Shirley Whitenack, will give you the confidence to shoot in all modes and fully utilize your camera’s features. You will be introduced to the workings of your camera with the components identified and explained. We will cover camera mechanics, metering modes, exposure, point of focus, seeing light, depth of field (blurred, soft background vs detailed, sharp background), and basics of flash. Lots of personal attention and hands-on practice to enhance your learning. Both the technical and artistic aspects of photography are explored. Class is limited to 10 participants.

Shirley has been photographing for over 40 years and enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience. In 2020, one of her images merited in Professional Photographers of America international print competition. Her photographs have also been awarded many blue ribbons in Virginia Professional Photographers Association competitions. In 2019, she was awarded 1st place in photography at Art at the River juried art show. She is a member of VA Professional Photographers Association and a lifetime member of Professional Photographers of America.
