About

On Wednesday, October 11 from 2pm to 4:30pm artist Kate Leal will lead a free workshop for cancer survivors, patients and their caregivers at the Cancer Resource Center in Nags Head. At class, Kate will guide participants in making lighthouse mosaics out of recycled ceramic and glass tiles.

In this mosaic class, participants will use recycled ceramic and glass tiles with grout adhesive to create a freestyle mosaic. A freestyle mosaic simply means participants will apply the tiles directly into the grout instead of the traditional technique of gluing/grouting and then wiping clean. Participants will be given all materials and a pattern to follow. Each individual will also be given the opportunity to chose their own lighthouses colors (only within certain patterns). This helps provide the correct contrasts. All projects will take approximately 24hours to dry completely before hanging. These mosaics are for indoors only.

Cost: Thanks to a Community Benefit Grant from Outer Banks Health, this workshop is free for cancer survivors, patients and their caregivers, and all supplies are included.

Although class is free, pre-registration is required so that the instructor can plan ahead for supplies. You can register online at DareArts.org/workshops or by calling Dare Arts at 252 473 5558.

Class is limited to 15 students.

Class location: Class will be held at the Cancer Resource Center Medical Office Building located on the second floor at 4800 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC 27959.
