From practical advice to hands-on photography, award-winning photographers Shirley Whitenack and her husband, Richard St. Peter, will teach a photography workshop on Saturday, October 21 from 8am to 3pm that will empower you to take control of your camera and unleash your creativity. 

In this class, you will learn basic camera mechanics, selection of a file type, shooting modes, and electronic flash. In addition, you

will learn the fundamentals of exposure, exposure compensation, as well as the relationship of shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO setting. Focus, point of focus, and focus lock will be explained. Photographs, demonstrations, and hands-on learning will reinforce the classroom instruction.

Class will begin at 8am at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head for photography practice and then move over to Dare Arts in Manteo until 3pm for classroom instruction, hands-on learning and discussion.

Each participant will receive a binder of photography handouts to keep for future reference. Expect to leave this class with the confidence to take control of your camera to create more dynamic photographs.

What to bring? Camera(s), battery charger, instruction manual, digital media, tripod (not required), laptop (not required), a few good and “not so good” photos you have taken, a brown bag lunch, and your questions.

Preregistration is required. There must be 5 participants signed up for class to take place. Class is limited to 10 students. Class is open to students aged high school to adult.

Cancellation policy: Registrations cannot be transferred to future workshops. No-shows will not receive a refund. If you need to cancel for any reason, we will only refund you if we are able to fill the spot. If we are forced to reschedule/cancel the workshop for any reason, we will contact you directly about the new date or refund.

Instructor Bio: Both Shirley and Richard have been photographing for over 40 years each and have earned the Fellow of Photography degree from VA Professional Photographers Association. Shirley is also a lifetime member of Professional Photographers of America.
