More than 250 people attended the Dare County Arts Council's recent 30th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting held at Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant and Tavern on June 28. Food, music and fun were all on the agenda, as attendees from around the state came to celebrate 30 years of cultivating arts in our community. The celebration included the presentation of annual awards to community members and businesses for their dedication and commitment to the arts in Dare County. Kelly Norris and Elizabeth Davenport were recognized as Individual Art Supporters of the Year; Port O'Call Restaurant was presented with Business Supporter of the Year; and, Inger Seitz and Brenda Yerkes received Volunteers of the Year. Awards for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts were presented to family members in honor of community arts leaders we recently lost this year - Chris Kidder, Beth Kraft and Walter Gray. Outgoing DCAC Treasurer Marilyn Milish received the DCAC Director's Award and Peggy Saporito received the President's Cup. Special recognition was also given to outgoing board members George Wood, Amy Huggins, Emily Robertson and Marilyn Milish.
In addition, the annual budget and DCAC board members and officers for FY 2005-2006 were approved. New board members elected were: Mary Barker, Johnnie Baum, Bronwyn Beckwith, Paul Dillon, Kelly Norris, Courtney Shankles and Tori Swicegood. The executive board for FY 05-06 is: Peggy Saporito - President, John Gaw - Vice President, Katherine Bottjen - Vice President, KaeLi Spiers - Secretary and Bobbye Workman - Treasurer. Other current board members are Pat Gallelli, Gina Harris, Judi Hornbeck, Jane Manning, Michael Russell and Pat Troiani. George Wood serves as President Ex-Officio.
