October 4 + 5, 2008
On October 4.th and 5th, the annual and largest fundraiser for the local non-profit arts organization will be the talk of the Outer Banks. Local artists, families, local businesses, patrons and friends will gather to celebrate and raise money for the arts. Proceeds will benefit art education and cultural programming in Dare County and the Artrageous Youth Scholarship Fund. The 19th year will again be a weekend long community-wide celebration of the arts. This event is a favorite for both the young and the young at heart.
Artrageous kicked-off with an art preview show of all donated artwork that was in the live auction at Glenn Eure's Ghost Fleet Gallery. The preview show ended with a special, invitation only "Artist Appreciation" reception.
The Artrageous Day event was held at the Dare County Family Recreational Park. Over 600 people came out to take part in all the activities which included live music, Artist Live Demonstrations, Professional Artist Show and Sell, Artist Quick Draws, children's auction hosted by Steve "The Dream", kid's hands-on activity booths and delicious food by High Cotton, and fun for the whole family. This year's special guest artist was Seton McGlennon. Seton was commissioned in 2004 to hand paint 925 of her heirloom ornaments of the White House for The President and Mrs. Bush. Seton's original Memory Trunk, which illustrates and celebrates the story of one's family's life, was featured on the Oprah show as one of "Oprah's Favorite Things". She has been featured in People magazine, Southern Living, on The Home and Family Show, Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and many other local newspapers, periodicals, radio and television. Her art is held by patrons, celebrities and collectors worldwide. To find out more information on Seton McGlennon you can visit her web site at www.setonmcglennon.com.
The Artrageous event concluded on Sunday evening at Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant and Tavern with a cocktail party and live music. The art auction followed, managed by auctioneer Charles Hardy, during which collaborative pieces, donated artwork, kid's framed posters, Youth Artists, Professional Quick Draws and many other items were auctioned off to some very enthusiastic bidders.
The Dare County Arts Council would like to thank all of our sponsors, donors, patrons and volunteers for continuing to support the arts. Our biggest thanks goes out to our donating artists - artrageous was a huge success and continues to be a success year after year because of all that you are willing to give. WE THANK YOU!
